He said, "Hello Mother, well we do need to talk about her."
She said, listening to his trembling voice "I am delighted."
He said, "I am not sure if I want to marry but will you love her?"
She said, "How can I love her if you do not know you want her?"
He said, "Mother, you are being difficult."
She said, her heart lurching -"Let us begin again."
He said  "Mother I never knew you to be this way."
She said "What way?"her voice filling-spilling tears.
He said,  "I always thought you'd be there for me."
She said, "I am."
He said, "It is just because you are not getting your own way."
She said, hearing an unknown coldness crack their air, "What way?"
He said,  "She said it would go like this - and I did not believe her."
She said,  "What way?"
She said,  "What way?"
He said, nothing at all.
