Mimesis

Mimesis

Beside, beneath, beyond blossoming
the perfumed paranoia of
perceived perfection
just as well might be
a petaled unhinged rose
in-formed invisibility
on the journeyed vectors of
Lives lived as though on planed
Reality

Extraordinarily interesting topic to think about today…little time to do it justice …but a quick impression and reactive poem to one of the presented Dali works…. THANK YOU ELLA :)

As cited in the online source “Wikipedia” …

“Both Plato and Aristotle saw in mimesis the representation of nature. Plato wrote about mimesis in both Ion and The Republic (Books II, III and X). In Ion, he states that …
poetry is the art of divine madness, or inspiration. Because the poet is subject to this divine madness, it is not his/her function to convey the truth.[citation needed] (Wikipedia – italics my own)….”

I believe that the experience of life is not linear but rather amalgams of integrated diaphanous – multi-layered, impression as veils folded upon the other felt as a ‘knowing’ of one’s version of the truth or reality.

And this is capital-R reality--and should be for Plato as well if he believed in his own Ideal! Aristotle never agreed with Plato that art and other mimesis should be sacrificed to the virtues of a police state. He stands up for art, as if he is saying: !we won't be overthrown, look! There are rules for artists too! I'll give you a few."

  3. PKP,

A most interesting analysis of this Dali work. Human behaviour captured in this most original manner.

  4. I loved what you did~ It felt like a dance of reality and perception. Sometimes we blur these lines and make our own world, our own view ;D Well Done

  5. Wish it were linear, at least from time to time.
Loved his quote: "don't be afraid of perfection, as you will never reach it".
Why do we strive for it? Again and again, without a hope in hell? What's wrong with 90% anyways?

    1. Aww thanks Sharon - actually Poetics United directed to the Wikipedia site - but was fascinating ...,

Speaking of surrealism... heard today that in Medieval times proof of a rape NOT having occurred was a pregnancy ... The reported alleged belief was that a woman's body would shut down and prevent pregnancy if raped...so a current US politician who recently stated the same has backup (albeit Medieval) .

  7. If Dalí had been a good poet, he would have written something like this.
    Well done, Pearl!
