My Violet

My Violet

There she goes a fake feather boa wrapped around her head
Vivacious, vibrant, a vision in a single sumptuous hip check

Startling
Slather of fresh whipped creamery butter gliding barefoot
There she goes,  nothing manipulative about this little chicklet
Short and sassy lisping “Love you Daddy” in her Princess PJ’s
And I sit here, suddenly inarticulately, just this side of vacuous
Master of Nothing, soaking in this sumptuous four-year-old

Vision

Fresh from her bath – a fake feather boa on her head
Tip-toe dancing into forever, pulsing in, and with, and through
And magically, mystically, incomprehensibly, of my very blood
My Violet

Stamped in forever, with a fake feather boa on her head

  1. With a boa on her head, she's no shrinking violet. Somebody had to say it, right? LoL Nicely penned Pearl.

  10. You may have made her up, but in this poem she LIVES. I could see her clearly, hear her voice, and I shared your inarticulateness at her sheer perfection. Four year old girls are so utterly enchanting. My life is full of boys. I may have to go RENT a girl, smiles.

    1. Yes, Sherry Violet does live - she came to me on a rather melancholic morning with a smile and a dance a fake feather boa -as I've written before who knows where these poems come from - I only enjoy - as far as that little four-year-old she may very well be a vestige of the four-year-old that still lives within all of us who were once ... well four. Thank you so very much for stopping and for sharing your meeting of Violet soon after I met her myself. I am delighted that you smiled as well :)

    1. Aw Cheryl - I love the idea of you dancing along - Violet came to me as an imaginary little girl or a vestige of the little girl that still lives in all of us who once were... Thank you so very much for stopping, for dancing, for commenting :)

    1. Ah yes as well I know.... Little Violet lives forever, twirls forever and drapes her fake feather boa whenever - she is a figment and came to me to give me a smile which I welcome and am delighted that you enjoyed along with me :)

  14. Pearl, this is absolutely beautiful! I know exactly what you are talking about, as I have a granddaughter who is soon to be six; and I know that age of four is so wonderful; and I can just see your little one with her feather boa. (My granddaughter still floats around with scarves draped and adorned with her 'jewels' feeling like a princess, which indeed she is.) Don't you wish she could your little one could remain that age for a long, long time? I wish that EVERY year my granddaughter reaches. Again, a truly beautiful heart-felt poem.

  15. P.S. I read this again and perhaps this is about a daughter rather than a granddaughter. But the sentiment would be the same!

  16. Four year olds live in their own delightful worlds. We can only know ourselves to be blessed when invited into those realms. Really like this Pearl, reminds me of each one of my three daughters when they were four.

    1. Oh yes Elizabeth - thank you for stopping and although Violet is a figment - the novel on which I am working involves a four-year-old-little girl ... of course I was a four-year-old- little girl ... mhmmm perhaps that part of myself still is dancing somewhere below the melancholy and rises every once in a while to twirl :)

    1. Oh my what a generous comment! Indeed :) Now it is my turn to be greatly humbled .. Little Violet just came to me on a rather melancholy Sunday morning when I myself needed some cheering up... I love the image of a lil one with a feather boa on her head - gave myself a smile and delighted that you enjoyed her as well :) Actually you've moved me to tears!

  23. Pearl, this is lovely. This poem's vivid images slide one into another much as shuffleboard pucks snuggle up to each other on the court. Both name and color cast a spell over the words, giving them a hue all their own. Well done, my friend.
