Still

Still

Still in watery predawn light spilling
into the shudder-shimmer of silence -
All gone home - carrying surreptitious
gifts stuffed under coats improvising
condolences from planned-canned-
canceled-congratulations - stumbling
smiles slipping from mouth corners -
All gone now - all silent in this watery
undawned light - and you - stillborn -
somewhere - still

  1. The stillborn ending made me feel I want some songs to fill the stillness.

  2. There's a hint of weighty sadness in those last two lines. And especially loved the resonance of the second line.

  3. Marvellous use of alliterative phrases. I especially admire the change of mood in the last 3 lines. 'watery undawned light' is brilliant!
