En Pointe

En Pointe

misty miss - standing en pointe
on the blur edge of childhood
waiting for your alternate
self to replace this now
vanishing flimsy former –
open to others’
sense of your
potential –
bidding
sweet
adieu
to the
you
delicate doe
just now tiptoed
with whispered bucolic
synergy spinning across
the stage twirling you
whirling you into
woman as
you leap
with
pounding
heart and
flushed
cheeks
landing
into the
dance
again
and
again
clear
crisp
clean

  3. Ahh Pearl… so beautiful… can't help but think of my 17 year old daughter reading your words… although somedays her spinning is not so grace-filled, there is teetering involved in the process… I remember this in my own life then and now too… transitions dip into the fantasy and wiggle uncomfortably until we find the right fit.

  4. I liked the analogy of an en pointe for describing the transition from girlhood to womanhood. It's a precarious position though.

  5. I can't help but wonder if each of us has an alternate self...

  9. Really like shape poems, words defining three dimensional object, while drawing it with single and two dimensional forms. You are so right...clear, clean, and crisp.
