Beyond sunset
Beyond sunset
in a long nightshirt
soft as tendriled
tumbled
jasmine
hair –
the tiny child peeks
through latticed window
and calls in voice of
crystal peal
"There Mum there"
But Mum has grown
too ample
trapped
overstuffed
into her domain
to any longer see
Demons destructed
or fairies
floating on
songbirds whistle
And so, unseen the scrap
fairy cloth snagged
shining
as sparking filament
against the granite
window sill
Where mum
leans
right there
under her arm
Where Mum
looking with
flawed grownup
eyes
searches
for the dancing
montage
clear in the sunset
sky
Sweet Mum whose
girlhood has
slipped forever
gone
Hugs her
jasmine tiny girl
and
remembers
for an instant
fairies
floating
as fireflies
on a
navied
night
as
this
as
this
This one made me laugh, as a too-ample Mum! Then the romantic kicked in.
