Azalea Plant
They wheel her down
the corridor toward
the looming automatic
door opening outward
to a new life with only
an azalea plant
she cut off the congratulations ribbon
stuck her nail in the baby balloon
left the stuffed bears and smiles
up in Maternity
mother only to this
azalea plant who she
just could not bear to
leave
also
to die
alone
