For the innocents of Aurora Colorado, USA - 7-20-12

Sitting in the dark
Together
In the flickering
Light of
Free assembly
Until a fragmented
Mind explodes
All

With honor of and respect for the innocents murdered and injured and terrorized in Aurora Colorado-
let no one dignify this fractured bearer of death, pain and fear.

  1. So true, Pearl. We both know where this is going to lead in the long run. We've been around the block too many times not to see the comparisons.

I'm glad that you can do this, and do it so very well, both under your other hat, and as a poet. I no longer have the heart for it, or perhaps, too much heart for it.

    This poem was excellent, BTW.

  2. I absolutely understand the "too much heart for it" ... I am shaken - and yes we do both know where this going to lead in the voracious media - let us hope restraint is - for this one time shown - rather than colluding with the insanity that permits such heinous action to occur.

    1. Kind words for which I thank you. Just felt helpless with enormity of sadness over the possibility of such horror of one human being toward others.

  4. Sadly this will be treated as other such events in the past. Your poem is a graceful tribute to all that was lost.

    1. Thank you K. Perhaps we will learn more and do better for those among us who are moving into a horrific plateau of 'otherness.'

    1. It is odd to accept thanks for something so absolutely tragic and yet it was written and posted and I thank you for stopping and for commenting.

    1. As my comment above - I thank you and truly wish there was no event of which to write.

  7. So touching and powerful. This poem went straight to my heart! I was left speechless yet you have spoken for me, only like a great poet can. I so agree with your comment after.

    1. Your words are kind - sometimes there is nothing else to be done at the moment but write - such was the case here. Thank you for stopping and noting my comment - so far perhaps we are making some social progress as obvious references have not been used in the media. Thank you so very much for stopping and for sharing your thoughts with me.

  9. A very succinct and clear statement. Sometimes fewer words can capture the horror one feels in a sudden moment of profound change.

  10. Such dignity, Pearl, and I so hear you about not giving the perpetrator air time. I also feel like Claudette, "too much heart for it." One gets too full, after a number of decades on the planet. Your words express the happening with the most dignity I have found in any writings about it. Well and respectfully done.

  11. "All" is right! The ones to whom you address this are gone, but you remind us here--by stopping with them--NOT to let this event explode all belief, hope, love, etc. And then in your comment, you re-enforce this: do not dignify . . . .

I suspect many are grateful for the poets and ministers who speak from this pain. I know I do.

  12. A most thoughtful and sincere composition, which expresses the shock and the mood of this dreadful heinous act.
Sadly, this incident reminds me too much of the death and destruction which was all around me in my birth city of Belfast.
The loss of innocents yet again.
