I think…
I think back
sun dappling through wafting
willow weeping - boughs over us,
Father and daughter
I shall never see …
the grass cool beneath
our backs – breath
easy and safe-
A poem
Written in the air
Lovely as a tree
Held in my forest
of forever memory
Pearl, this is exquisitely done. I love that original tree poem (the first poem I ever heard when I was eight) woven through the memory of the tree and that father/daughter moment. My tree memory is always the weeping willow in my grandma's back yard. I swung under it in a hammock reading all summer.
ReplyDeleteAww thank you Sherry.. yes, I too believe this was my first poem remembered and it wouldn't be silent for this prompt. Oh I love your tree memory.. adore hammocks and loved my grandma's backyard!
DeletePearl,
ReplyDeleteI often think of the lives lived under the witness of trees. The memories now held dear by those who were there.
Trees are observers upon those who collect in their presence...
Your poem is full of precious memories..
Aww Eileen ... yes trees as witnesses ... how beautiful! I'm delighted you enjoyed.
DeleteI agree with Eileen's thoughts completely. I love that you bring in memories of your father. "Willow weeping - boughs over us" really captures the emotion, Pearl. Very evocative writing!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary.. oh I'm so happy you chose that line which carries the memory most completely for me. Thank you and lovely of you to share here with me.
DeleteLovely! The tree, the poem, the relationship intertwine to make more beauty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan... I love your writing and is lovely that you enjoyed this little memory of mine.
DeleteThis is such a moving poem Pearl. Specially love the tree's part in the making of a cherished memory. Everything seems so blessed; the time, the tree, the father-daughter bond, the recollection and the poem that holds everything. The reader too.
ReplyDeleteOh Sumana - your writing and sensibility is often so imbued with spirtualism that it moves me that you you were touched by this poem. Thank you!
DeleteYou have written about beautiful connection, memories that live with and in us.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie .. so lovely that you took the time to read and to respond here and connect with me under the willow tree.
