Call to Midwives All Dedicated to Valarie Kaur*

Call to Midwives All
Dedicated to Valarie Kur *

time to shoulder the burden of birth
of heart, soul and hope
time to march on this soft earth
of all creatures, creed, and life
time to cope, to touch, to give,
to reach toward the light ...
time to shoulder the burden of birth
of this more perfect nation world -
struggling to be born not from the
"darkness of the tomb" but from the
"darkness of the womb"
"breathe then
 push... "*

Valarie Kaur is a brilliant and wonderfully articulate young attorney activitist -
her words at a particular multi-cultural NewYear's gathering left me breathless ..

  1. I love this rallying cry, especially "time to shoulder the burden of birth of heart, soul and hope." Well said, Pearl.

  2. "time to cope, to touch, to give" This is a message we all need to hear (and embrace) today.

  6. One foresees much midwifery skill will be needed. A difficult birth, indeed.

  7. Well said. I remember the classes and the wonderful results, despite being told "why don't you try pushing and being told how to breathe". Not quite in that tone. I was a good coach :)

  9. I attended the birth of our second child born at home with a midwife in attendance (Nurse May). It was her day off but came anyway as she had already prepared my wife for the event and didn't want to miss it. Apart from holding a hand and wiping brow I was also assigned the task of disposing with bits surplus to requiremnents on this great occasion. Needless to say I was breathing and pushing too! So three cheers for midwives.

  10. Excellent. I love this. It's exactly what's needed.

I used a midwife, many moons ago, and I fully support the power of women coming together to help babies breathe.

  13. I agree with others who are saying, this is what we need to read and hear right now: the positivity, the hope, the light. Yes. It is. Thanks so much, dear Pearl.
