the drizzle of diamonds

the drizzle of diamonds

the sky used to drizzle diamonds
her face turned to heaven as she
stood infant in arms and whirled
good fortune at peak – now gone
to rot – weeping willowed roots
wrapping round her ankles on
the trail to the tunnel where ex-pat
mothers trudge seeking surcease
from the swift sickled saint, sur-
cease from those relentless
slashes of the soul - seeking
entrance to the black tunnel with-
out end - yet - there -through it all
in memory - manifested - ahead
the drizzle of
diamonds
sparkling
still

  1. Mother love is a big theme in things I've been reading this week, and here it is again. Both tragedy and beauty.

  5. I love the memory of the sky once drizzling diamonds.......still does, out of the cities..........I especially like "seeking surcease from the swift sickled saint." Very cool lines. Nice to see you here, Pearl.

  6. Such stunning use of alliteration and the imagery of 'the drizzle of diamonds sparkling still' is absolutely glorious!!

  7. The title is magical and your poem seemed like a passage of time - a life unfolding - maybe the diamonds shine in a different way with time..but I am glad they are still there

  10. Better to have had that 'drizzle of diamonds' than not and better too to see those infants grow and be parents themselves for they are certainly diamonds in themselves.

  11. the universes are a symmetry of random chaos. sometimes as the human species we try to find 'good' and 'bad' in them but they reside on their own. this piece is thought provoking. gracias for sharing
