Of Purple Mountains Majesty

Of Purple Mountains Majesty

Of purple mountains majesty I sang
in my white school assembly shirt
in days before canvas hoisting running
from the suburbs to the city park
walking with an open heart into the
headlights of that time of all-change-
possible - each fist clenched within
velvet gloves of hope

  1. I love the contrasts...the passage of time..the hope tempered with reality..but most importantly still there

  3. I am not quite sure that I get this poem... But what I FEEL from it is the hope one had as a young person, the feeling that everything is possible....under the purple mountain majesty. I like 'velvet gloves of hope.'

  10. Despite the difference from those childish times and what we have have achieved there is still a yearning to return to that simpler more ordered life of our youth.

  11. "velvet gloves of hope"---love that line and the idea of fists being clenched within them...so beautiful.

  13. Ending your poem with those clenched fists make me think two things: Either the speaker is very, very angry---or very, very determined. (Surely, it couldn't be both, could it?)
