they came and gathered as a swarm to worship
you
so recently gone
their held grief ready to spill behind the
comradely smiles
of film-goers meeting at the small hillside theatre
where
the sharp edges of their own preciously held life
poked
one another in the ribs
you
as the pre-eminent reminder
they came and watched your film together in the dark
laughed at the right places and all fell together
in the exact center of your Gandolfini eye
twinkling amid unbidden memoried ghosts released
as the credits rolled
and silence rushed - and
in that moment before the lights
those simple words "for Jim"
you
leaving behind that theater sized smile
absolutely,incomprehensibly, ever-present and gone
you
leaving behind that theater sized smile
absolutely,incomprehensibly, ever-present and gone
for one as grand as you - never enough words
simply the swell of all you were and always shall be
up there on the screen and in the hearts and streaming eyes
of those who stumble in sunlight with your smile branded forever
twinkling with mischievious knowledge of the big joke
you
"enough said."
simply the swell of all you were and always shall be
up there on the screen and in the hearts and streaming eyes
of those who stumble in sunlight with your smile branded forever
twinkling with mischievious knowledge of the big joke
you
"enough said."
* James Gandolfini, US and international film star and most recently know for his long time run as Tony Soprano unexpectedly and far too early died
in June- his latest film "Enough Said" has been released to critical acclaim and is a fitting tribute to the love and admiration he inspired.
Beautiful tribute, Pearl. The movie is on my list to see.
ReplyDeleteThe fillm was delightful (don't want to oversell) and gave many many opportunities to view that signature Gandolfini sparkle of the eye ...
DeleteWow. How rather astonishing that his last film was titled Enough Said. I will have to watch it for sure. Love your tribute-poem. He would, too.
ReplyDeleteAww you are always so very sweet (I would say "kind" but people seem to say this so often I fear the very word in this context is losing its meaning - though you ARE the essence of kindness). Thank you Sherry - you brought a tear to my eye - I didn't spend nearly enough time on someone who for some reason touched me deeply.
DeleteI will have to look for this one. I was not a Soprano's watcher so I am not so familiar with his work
ReplyDeleteWonderful tribute poem!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so very much for stopping and a lovely comment :)
DeleteOh Pearl, I'm so glad I read this piece. It flows beautifully, and makes my spirit swell for a life well-lived. Lush and moving.
ReplyDeleteBrenda - wow! what a comment "lush and moving" thank you - Appreciated so very very much:)
DeleteLovely tribute, Pearl. So well said.
ReplyDeleteActors, singers and other entertainers often enter our hearts and become friends and their loss always hurts.
ReplyDelete<3 is a heart that knows grandness in a simple smile.
ReplyDeleteNice poem and tribute, Pearl.
Thank you Claudsy - for stopping by in the midst of all of your very very busy time and for the delightful comment :) It is deeply appreciated :)
DeleteHi Pearl,
ReplyDeleteHave you decided not to do the October Memoir and Back Story Blog Challenge, or are you just late getting started? Please let me know so I can take your name off the list if you won't be doing it. jamclachlan@golden.net
