At the edge of Shoreline

At the edge of Shoreline

At the edge of Shoreline
heel to heel - smiling plans
of a sudden jig into the salt -
the child watches with held
breath the landscape of
all possible future rippling
in the sea - beyond shadow,
behind sense, joy flung
beyond gravity sends a
shimmered sunshined thread
into the tapestry of the watching
child - weaving her in
celestial elixir – softly,
satisfying as fresh baked bread
rising as a smile at the edge of
the shoreline watching
with held breath two
shoes heel to heel
ready to dance
into the blazing sea

  1. Nicely 'painted' scene, Pearl. I can just picture the child and her

    " two
    shoes heel to heel
    ready to dance
    into the blazing sea "

And I wonder if she will resist...

  2. I like the image of waiting....and wondering what is beyond, all in that moment before the dance begins. There is something ominous about the blazing sea, that gives me pause for concern.

  10. How enchanting! The heel to heel dance of it culminating in the blazing sea is so picturesque and unexpected, I was enthralled...

  13. Satisfying description of the blend of joy and anticipation that fills the child when young, and the inner child kept alive and breathing long after. Thanks for this one,

  15. Oh, for me, this brought wonderful memories of the exquisite anticipation of waiting the few seconds before we were "allowed to go in," while my parents settled themselves into positions where they could watch us in the ocean! Thank you for this lovely poem.

  18. Reminds me so much of happy summers, children dancing on the beach, the sound of laughter caught up in the gentle waves. A nice feeling to have on a Monday morning. Thanks for sharing.

  19. That "landscape of all possible future" is something I remember as a child looking out to sea to realize the vastness of the world. Beautifully crafted.
