To The Sea

To The Sea

Down the lane barefoot, she walks
gentle footfalls soft on cool loamed earth
onto sharp-sharded alley slicing unfelt cuts
on bloodying soles, walks without squander

to the sea

Green eyes fixate-follow the navigation of her
heart hammering her intractable path

to the sea

There in the newly fingered crimsoning dawn
rustled flocks of geese rise as one
vanished vees into molten pewter

of shimmered sky, beating
powerful wings into fresh
wet-salt scented breezes
of this new day
filled with promises yet to keep

to the sea

she walks  with  gentle footfalls
sunlight shining in tangled hair
alone, safe, free

to
the
languid
sea

waiting
with
open
arms
to
accommodate

her...

forever

  1. This stanza is gorgeous:
There in the newly fingered crimsoning dawn
rustled flocks of geese rise as one
    vanished vees into molten pewter

  2. Gorgeous writing! So many splendid images! I loved: "her heart hammering her intractable path" and "newly fingered crimsoning dawn rustled flocks of geese rise as one vanished vees into molten pewter."
    The ending was unexpected!

  4. So beautiful. Especially lovely is "into molten pewter of shimmered sky". Sigh. I accompanied her every footfall.

  5. one usually thinks of the sea as the one with the inexorable path, instead of one intent on reaching it. good stuff.

    1. I'm with Flaubert: 'to the sea' just keeps drawing the reader farther and farther in...

  7. So visually stunning, Pearl. Love the repeating refrain and the way you separated the last few lines made it dramatic. Very nice!

  8. The salted air...the sea. So good for the soul. I was lucky to be at a the sea one morning off of a Maui shore...so clear, warm and inviting...Now if I could just breath under water...

  9. Hi .... OH MY GOODNESS... Was so busy with trying to get poems together for a collection.. a new commitment to submit something somewhere every day in the month of may and realizing I had written almost 200 poems this April for PAD challenge and saved NONE.. (don't ask ... they are now here on a separate page)... that I DID NOT SEE THESE COMMENTS!!!!

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you. After an odd couple of days feeling positively 'fried' your beautiful words are like cool water on my mind....

    So much appreciated :)))))))))))))
