Hope and Hopeless

Hope

Less than two pounds
glistening
translucence
silver slivered
needles slithered
side by sinew
within
tubes flowing out
into concave breaths
tape fine as filaments
over unblinking eyes
closed until
it is time
to see
the wonders
of life
like silk
ribbon unfold

Hopeless

Too small
too early
too vulnerable
to live
